10 Minutes Yoga by tuffix 10 Minutes Yoga by tuffix
Recently, I found a calm place at college, where I can make my prayers. Since I'm the only Muslim there, I didn't had the courage to do so from the very beginning. May Allah forgive my stubid cowardice.

My fellow students were rather interested in what I'm doing, cause they never knew any real Muslim before. Now, they even remind me of it and search places, where I can pray, if we are in some other campus.
Muslims do pray 5 times a day and the time of prayer depends on the position of the sun. Since the sun sets earlier in winter, the interval between the prayers is very short. So my friends first had the feeling, that I was praying all the time ^^
Now, I just say: "I need my 10-minutes-Yoga" and they smile and wish me a "nice date with my God" :D

In fact, the prayer is something like a break. Last time I read a nice comparison. It goes like this: Life is like a soccer game. You always need a half-time recess, to calm down, take a breath, rethink your strategy. What is my aim? Where's the goal :P Who plays by my side?

---

Actually I don't call the prayer "yoga". I say that I'm going to pray, then I add that as a Muslim I have to do so and that it is actually a very peaceful moment. And that people can't ban me from praying, since they wouldn't forbid yoga, which doesn't disturb other people as well.
I added this note, because a brother just told me, that a sheik in Azhar (big respectable mosque and Islamic college in Egypt) once said, that we shouldn't name things in Islam with a different name, so we shouldn't consider the prayer for example as a sport or yoga or a break. Prayer is prayer.

It's funny how motivated I am in exam time :D ..

Here's a very interesting article about Yoga and islamic Prayer: [link]

"May Allah forgive my stubid cowardice."
1) Stubid? (Ich bin ein Grammatik Nazi!
2) If you lived in America, that'd probably just be common sense. Even as we become more religiously diverse, we still don't like other religions. For some reason, specifically other Abrahamic religions and sects. Not sure why. Though, in Germany, you seem to be fine. They've sorta become reverse-Nazis.

I think that no matter what religion you believe, everyone should take some time out of their day to pray or meditate. It makes everything so much clearer.

That's a really wonderful thing to do. Taking time to think about life and the higher power with a busy day is hard , but it is very important because it gives you a new way to look at your problems.

This is Awesome! As both a Muslim and Yoga teacher i can completely see how each could be associated together; as i practice my yoga i know that i am preparing my mind, body, energies for stillness and serenity as is needed for prayers; I feel truly aware of each and every word i say and the presence of Allah surrounding me; almost as though my prayers start on my yoga mat and end on my prayer rug. I find that many of my sisters in my classes have had their prayer enhanced by their yoga practices as well. Of course i am an odd yoga teacher as i never use sanskrit or "invoke" the Hindu/Buddist dieties so very many teachers do; I invite my students to open themselves to a God that speaks to them, that rather than "OM" pick a word that brings calm and peace to their hearts... my personal mantra is "SubhannaAllah" as it gives me great peace in my heart. And i make no secret when teaching where my faith is and i encourage students to use their practice as a time to pray if they have no other time, or no courage to openly pray...

MashAllah, I admire your strength in continuing to attend to your prayers. You will be truly blessed for your efforts!

i am blessed to be able to have a husband and home in northern new jersey which is quite muslim oriented (my husband is from Turkey)and our community is one of the largest in the US. But i am also blessed to have a small farm in central florida that is not near many muslims at all...there when i am in the general public i'm sure that i am not understood, but when i do teach yoga there, i am quite respected...i think its because i plainly state that my yoga practice has helped me move closer to communication with God as though i can hear God in my breath, and that makes me happy and we all deserve to be happy and thats why we do yoga....and now that they understand why i wear a head cover, they totally respect "the scarf!" Hee Hee Hee!

I like how u understand the pray, unfortunately some muslims didn't get the benefit of pray .. the date with god :D
u make me rethink of what I am thinking about while praying.

This is really sweet and I find the fact that people are so accepting of your religion wonderful. I myself am not a Muslim but, I am very open minded Christian and I do believe our prayers are going to the same place no matter what we call our God. I have not commented on all of your works that I wanted to but, you really have some beautiful ideas and you express them so well with grace and humor. Please know that I am a big fan.
