Enjoy Difference by tuffix Enjoy Difference by tuffix
You know, sometimes I stand there at the subway station looking around and wondering about all those different people. Some talk in Turkish, some in French and others use an Asian language. Berlin is a very multicultural city and I'm happy to live here.
I wish more people would enjoy difference as I do.

Yes, I played around in photoshop .. ^^"

[I can't guarantee a meaningful content of the Turkish and Japanese textes there :D ]

You mainly responded to my most superficial argument.
You talk about the destructive effect of diversity - is it destruction or just change? Aren't compromises good since they make it possible for the people of the world to live together?
One of my other arguments was, that culture is always in motion. What is culture? At college we define culture as the man-made part of the environment, so is it fix? No. Is culture something that you can only see at national level? No, 'cause Punks and hip hop guys have their own culture, too, and some of their values and norms are  "less desirable" for me and other people, that share their nationality.
So I'd say, wherever there are people, there will be differences in tastes and norms (that are not necessarily national based). Sometimes they are inspring and sometimes not. But differences are there and they make you realize, that we all are just the same.
All cultures of the world were formed, when people came together. And they changed when other people or ideas arrived. I think that we life in a time, where people are torn between their wish to develop rapidly and their wish to preserve things, especially since we are able to record anything visually or written. And since the world is changing so fast (technology alone is developing exponentially!) we will have to deal with globalization on the people's level, too. I don't think, that their will be one global culture, but maybe the cultures of the world will converge (they already do since internet). And they will create new kinds of beauty.
Anyway, maybe it's time to agree, that we don't agree (:
